Hotel History and other informations:The
famous French Writer Pierre Loti ( 1850 -1923 ) -the pen name of Julian
Viaud- is still very much remembered among the Turks thanks to his
works as well as Istanbul Pierre Loti Hotel .
Pierre Loti, Captain of the French Navy, had been in Istanbul several
times and was deeply influenced by Turkish customs and daily life.
Loti, who in 1887 was granted "Legion d'Honour" and in 1891
elected member of the French Academy, had in his personality the spiritual
synthesis of the East and the West. Being a great admirer of the Orient's
magical atmosphere , he used to come to our Hotel tale in the afternoon
to watch the sunset or the rising moon. He liked the district of Sultanahmet
very much which has a splendid view on the Old City and especially
to our Hotel where he could offer a cup of tea to his friends and
have long conversations with them.
All the tourists who visited Istanbul Pierre Loti Hotel for the last
12 years did not fail to feel that particular romantic eastern atmosphere
which also fascinated the famous writer. And also the love story between
Pierre Loti and a beatiful Turkish maiden called Aziyade takes place
in Sultanahmet, where he also begun to write his novel Aziyade which
seems to be half romance, half an autho-biography.
Nowadays, Istanbul is gradually losing its ancient eastern charm.
If you would like have a comfortable holiday while watching the lovely
scenery of Sultanahmet and the typical Istanbul surrondings, you really
should come to Istanbul Pierre Loti Hotel and restaurants as well. |
